Instagram is easily one of the most popular apps worldwide, with over 1 billion active users. The social media platform has added a bunch of updates over the years – the most notable being Instagram Story, IGTV, and more recently Reels. The Facebook-owned app also lets users communicate via personal messages via Instagram DM (direct messaging) that supports group chat on WhatsApp and Telegram. However, due to a default setting, the platform allows strangers to add others to random spam groups that often include lewd pictures and comments. Although it is unclear how strangers discover your profile that eventually joins these groups, Instagram provides a much simpler solution. Here’s how you can do it:
If you have a professional Instagram
Unfortunately, as of March 2021, individual accounts do not have access to the option, and Facebook has not provided any clarity about its large rollout. If you get involved in spam groups often, then a simple solution for the times is to convert your Instagram account to a professional account. On the other hand, to leave an existing group, open the group chat and click “i” in the top right and select Holiday Chat.
